Choose Your Direction

Choose Your Direction by Barbara Burns

I have finally admitted it to myself … sigh … yes, clutter accumulating on my drawing table is my way of procrastinating.

I never used to suffer from procrastination but somehow as I have gotten older, it appears to have crept into my life like a thief in the night … suddenly I recognize it is here and I am not quite sure why or how it happened or what I am going to do about it.

For me, identifying the problem is my first step to finding a solution :) so I am at least headed in the right direction knowing it has found a way into my life.

I cleared off the smaller of my two drawing tables this morning – it took me all morning to do it between distractions … running upstairs every 15 minutes to the bathroom since I had 2 cups of coffee this morning … dogs howling the house down for some unknown to me reason and refusing to stop until I investigated … email arrival noises which led to Facebook … but I persevered and now it is clear!!! Not washed yet – I decided to write down what I was thinking so I can move on to the next step … stopping procrastination before it wins & I lose!!!

Does clutter on your drawing table, easel or desk equal procrastination for you too? What are you going to do to fight procrastination and win back your productivity?

My first step today has been to set a goal & finish the task. The goal was to clear the drawing table top – I cleared it.

My second step today was to identify for myself why I let it fill up into being unusable for artwork. For me, it is fear – I am experiencing some memory issues and I fear that I will not be able to complete projects if I start them plus real life “stuff” has stolen my focus away from artwork.

My next step will be making myself a plan to re-balance my life & real life “stuff” with less stress about memory issues … if I leave uncompleted art projects on my drawing table instead of clutter … they will get finished if they are good projects and thrown out if they are bad projects!!!
