Cost of Freedom
The cost of freedom is high … the war in Iraq is on everyone’s mind so close to the 4th of July – I painted two paintings tonight as I waited for my neighbors to quit with the fireworks so the dog can calm down and rest. One is “Swirling Fireworks” – how I “feel” fireworks swirling in the sky and the other was how high the Cost of Freedom “feels” to me.
My grandson came to spend the night with Grandma – he is sleeping in his tent in his room – safe and free – but the cost has always been high – 200 plus years ago, we in America fought to be free of Britain’s control – now Iraq fights to be free – the Iraqi people want the same thing I want … peaceful streets and neighborhoods, to sleep safely in their homes, to earn a living to take care of their family, to raise their children and watch their grandchildren grow up.
I wish the cost was not so high … but it still is … maybe someday the cost of freedom will not be blood, sweat and tears.
