Goat Lovers
As a kid in Iowa, our vacation every year of my childhood was a one day all day and evening trip to the Iowa State Fair – the day ended with the fireworks then it was time for the long walk home – we lived 3-4 miles away from the Fairgrounds and my Grandmother did NOT drive.
I am first generation off the family farm and my Grandmother raised me. My Grandma was in her mid to late 40’s in my early childhood … my Grandfather had moved her from the farm to the city (Des Moines) right before I was born .. she had 2 acres of land so every year about 1 acre was a truck garden in the backyard. She had no farm animals of her own in the city – my grandfather forbid that since he was gone most of the time driving a semi truck – lots of wild cats though to kill off rodents and snakes – no cats allowed in the house – no dogs inside or outside. I mowed the yard with a push mower first, then graduated to the gas powered lawn mower as I got older.
What does this have to do with goats you may ask? 
My grandmother had raised goats as well as many other farm animals … every time I mowed the grass .. she lamented not having a goat to help with her chores.
When we went to the Fair each year … we spent a lot of time in all the various livestock barns seeing all the various animals … cattle .. horses … goats … pigs … chickens … turkeys … geese … ducks …. the baby animals in each were always my favorite of course … I could pet the baby goats for example .. they were sooooo soft! Very friendly too! I grew up knowing that animals are very similar to us in the fact that they all have their own personality, likes, dislikes and fears from their home / surroundings.
