The 4th of July is nearly here – three weeks & we get a day off in the middle of the week – I saw fireworks stands all lit up this week-end though they did not seem to be open for actual business yet. Every year, my neighbors sound like they are blasting the entire neighborhood off the face of the earth for hours & days on end around major holidays but the 4th of July is even worse than New Years Eve. I have no idea how they can afford all those fireworks – I certainly could not! Fireworks get pretty expensive pretty quickly no matter what so-called deal they are offering on their sign.
Of course, it doesn’t help that the dog is terrified of fireworks & has to hide & be all terrified out of her wits – though last year she was hiding in my grandson’s tent in the bedroom – perhaps I should find it & set it up for her again this year? Though she will probably just hide under the futon in my grandson’s room!
Enjoy your 4th of July holiday but be safe, not sorry! Go to a professional fireworks show & do not allow your children to handle fireworks – way too many kids gets hurt setting off firecrackers every year. Remember that fireworks can explode in their hands no matter how careful they or you might be – that is the nature of fireworks!
July 4th is Independence Day for America – it is full of meaning beyond picnics & fireworks. Remember our military men & women serving our country & many dying in that duty to keep us free. I plan to observe 30 minutes of silent prayer for our military on the 4th of July this year and pray for their safety and their quick return home to their families. I hope you join me in these prayers for our military – they need all our prayers every day but I want to take extra time & attention for them on July 4th – a day that a different kind of fireworks may be lighting up their world.

I like that cup of coffee design!
The people around here shoot off a lot of fireworks too! We used to do a lot more fireworks when the kids were little. Now just a few – my favorites are the tanks and fountains.

Me too! I thought that was VERY clever! Wish I had thought it up but since I didn’t, I can just look at it & enjoy it! Last nite at midnite – we still had neighbors shooting off fireworks even though it was lightly misting rain!
The poor dog – she kept waiting for them to quit so she could go outside … and I barely got her out the door with her thinking they were done finally & she was safe from them – then they started going off again – she did take care of business but FAST AFTER a couple false tries (they would startle her to pieces just as she was trying poor thing!) so she could run back inside away from those fireworks!
I love to watch professional fireworks displays – those are so wonderful! I love the flower like ones that burst into lovely patterns. I never did fireworks when I was a kid or with my kids – I always bought sparklers for them … I don’t remember then even selling fireworks in Iowa … maybe it was illegal there …. I just know they are VERY dangerous! I’ve read about them exploding in people’s hands or in their faces! That is not something I want happening to anyone!
