May 9 2009 – My Grandson Became 12 Years Old
This means I am definitely not a spring chicken any more … chuckling … and neither is his Mama … ~ ouch ~ … he was making jokes about how I make dirt look young and others too … his cake was a football field .. he had a football game today (they lost) … it seems like just yesterday that he was this tiny little newborn baby who became an adorable toddler walking to me to be picked up … and now here he is a hulking football player nearly at the end of 6th grade and ready for 7th grade next fall.
Time flies … grandchildren grow up faster than our children … at dinner, I watched him using a knife to cut his cheeseburger in half (Chili’s – very large sandwich) and kept expecting his Mom to take it away from him to do it for him … then I realized .. he really is not a little boy any more … we get comfy in life and do not notice all the little changes until one day there ya are handing him a glass so he can pour his own milk instead of doing it for him and then next thing he is using a sharp knife to cut up his own meats … and we were discussing college and scholarship possibilities … time flies!

I love and hate these moments all at once. I love watching them grow and exploring on their own.. but then another moment passes by and they don’t want my help or want the nudge… I miss the little boy days sometimes.
Glad to see ya out b-loggin again

Yeppers … It is both exciting and depressing … and as his Grandma … time moves ever so much faster than it did watching his Mom grow up – it is not a “daily” watch … I usually see him once a week … sometimes more … sometimes less depending on what is happening in our lives … but he always seems just a bit more grown up each time than the time before last … good news is that he is awesomely fabulous though

Just stopped in because of Tuesday Topic! Nice to “meet you”. I was thinking about how quickly grandchildren grow up also. My oldest grandson was just a little tyke and then he was on Spring Break here, all full of angst over girls and scheduling paintball days with his friends and touring the college campuses in the area. Whew! He’ll be coming with children of his own before I know it.

Yeah … look away for 10 minutes as a Grandma and they aged 5 years almost … mine lacks about one inch of being as tall as me … he is already taller than his Mom … he went for his sports physical yesterday that he has to have before he can play jr high sports next fall … it seems like just a bit ago he went to meet the kindergarten teacher … and he already knows where he hopes to go to college! At least we are not to the girl angst yet … sigh … maybe next week
