Searching For Dragons
Dateline: April 26, 2007
Anyone who knows me or reads my blogs knows that I love dragons! Dragons are my very favorite animal (I love dogs too). Dragons on anything or as anything are hard to find in local shops many times.
Their popularity in brick and mortar stores appears to ebb and flow like the tide .. sometimes they will have a wonderful selection and perhaps a month later you cannot find anything anywhere … and in Houston, Texas, anywhere encompasses a lot of shopping territory!
My grandson’s birthday is next month and he too likes dragons so I am shopping online – it is a lot easier on the feet and back to shop from the comfort of home (not to mention how much gas it can save me since looking for dragons can take hours and driving all over Houston which is at least 60 miles across any direction from the center of town). And I’m not using up the minutes on my phone either calling every store in town who says … “oh yes … we have dragons over here 60 miles away” … and when I get there … it is not at all suitable for a 10 year old … if it is even a dragon anyway!
How difficult is it to know if something is a dragon or not? I’m not asking for elephants, camels, bears, tigers or kitty cats after all … but dragons.
Dragons look like dragons … wings … tails … lizard – ly scaly colorful types usually … I always wonder if that poor person never watched a cartoon or saw an illustrated tale with dragons in it when I get there and find out that what they thought was a dragon is not – once it turned out to look kind of like a cow or maybe a giant pig … I’ve never seen a dragon that looked like that anyway. The other choice is too awful to want to even consider – gasp – maybe they LIED to me to get me in the store thinking I would buy something anyway since I was there.
Guess what? Deliberately with malice afore-thought, I would not buy anything from that store. If they told me they had something and I drove all the way across town to get it … and it wasn’t what they said it was … oh my no … I am not spending my money in their store.
Once when that happened … I went into the store next door though and bought a big shopping bag full of stuff and then walked back over past their window and made sure to stop and wave at them and to make sure they saw me with my shopping bag of stuff.
I guess I have no sense of humor about people trying to take advantage of me … bait and switch is not something I am willing to reward in a store anywhere.
