Stained Glass Art and Solar Panels Technology Merger

The Stained Glass Shop has some history about stained glass if you are interested – I found it very interesting – I have always associated stained glass with churches and since I have not been to Europe, I hadn’t really thought of how the politics of history might have affected the glass itself (lots was deliberately broken throughout the past) let alone as an art form. I’ve never worked with stained glass but it was interesting reading about it. I still do not plan to create any of my own – I have painted on glass (a window to be exact) which was quite interesting but glass breaks so easily … and me being a clumsy klutz … well … I don’t think the two mix very well ;P

Part of the idea of this new technology, New Technology Turns Solar Panels into Colorful Art, source: Ecotality, frightened me terribly at first glance and thought.

- a quote from the Ecotality article: “Used in this way, the new technology not only prohibits direct sunlight from entering the building interior but also generates electricity at the same time.”

The image I saw in my mind reading that paragraph was a huge dreary warehouse-like atmosphere of rabbit warren interiors full of artificial light in moving rainbow colors and no real sunshine suddenly covering the entire earth surface (yes I do have a very vivid imagination – I am an artist after all!) … I bought one of the “natural light” lamps this winter. It is very nice for reading at night and I guess it works okay for painting at night for true colors – to me all / each light makes the art look different. BUT …. it does not remind me of daylight in my home. It just is not the same thing at all.

Until now, I had not even really thought about the fact that natural daylight illuminates the stained glass windows with natural daylight but does not let the sunlight actually into the room(s) because of the colored glass. Makes me feel like an unthinking idjit but the truth is that there was no reason for the thought or the “knowing without knowing” knowledge to be in the forefront of my brain … until I misunderstood something I read this morning and thought someone was planning to take it away from me … LOL

… it is a good idea … in moderation … I personally do not want huge colorful logos on every entire skyscraper from every side and the entire city looking like a crazy quilt – I think it could really make it hard to notice, let alone admire, the architecture of the buildings.

But I LOVE seeing stained glass in churches (I don’t live there so the lack of daylight isn’t a problem for me) and it is marvelous as a decorative window or lamps in a living room home for example …. but entire buildings everywhere in the world to live in full time of nothing but stained glass … I do not think I am ready for that at all! I found the Ecotality article from reading Solar Comes in all Shapes and Colours, source: Keetsa – who finds all kinds of neat things that are eco-friendly – things I would never discover on my own.
