Everyone who has seen the movie Braveheart starring Mel Gibson knows the name of William Wallace, Scotland’s Patriot.
I found this lovely photograph of a stained glass window that is in St Margaret’s Chapel in Edinburgh Castle. I love how the colors are rainbows on the castle walls.
I know that movies take facts and … movie-ize them into stories for the screen. I wondered what the real story about William Wallace was so I did a search. I found William Wallace The Truth - it was very interesting reading. It was pretty much exactly what I expected too.
I love stained glass … whether it is in a church or in a castle or in someone’s home – it is lovely and I think there is a lot of work involved in creating it. Glass doesn’t appear to exactly be easy to work with when I have watched glassblowers at festivals.
The best stained glass windows tell stories. William Wallace’s story .. a moment in history … in stained glass … he and his life were not romantic like the movie … but he fought for a cause that he believed in and tried to win freedom for his country and his country has not forgotten him.
