This weeks topic is veggies! Be sure to read JGoode’s veggie post too :)

My grandson LOVES broccoli … and eats it in public as well as at home … LOL … ever since he was tiny … it has drawn people to us to comment every time to see a child eating broccoli in a public cafeteria setting … willing eating it … no screaming … no fussing … just putting it in his mouth, chewing and swallowing the broccoli quite happily … with or without cheese … though at one time … he definitely preferred it without cheese! We like broccoli too … though I think I like just a bit of cheese sauce on mine.

My grandmother had a huge truck garden when I was a kid growing up in Iowa and all summer long we had all kinds of fresh veggies … green beans … peas … carrots … radishes … green onions … tomatoes … sweet corn … potatoes … I’ve eaten all those veggies raw … brushed the dirt off and ate them … it never killed me to eat dirty veggies back then … though I would not do it now … and I certainly would not let my grandson eat them raw covered in dirt fresh from the ground … I’d have to wash them off with a garden hose first these days in my older years knowing there are a gazillion pesticides all over the ground everywhere :D though water form a garden hose might not be the best answer either.

Fresh cooked veggies are soooo much better tasting than store bought canned veggies … the stuff at the store to me tastes awful … I cannot bear to eat most of it … the peas and green beans are the best of the lot but I like frozen veggies much better and that is what I usually buy except for some for my grandson – he did not grow up eating fresh or fresh just cooked so does not know what he is missing.

I’m not much of a cook but I love kitchen cooking gadgets … from the little drawer full of utensils that are so kewl – who knew I would ever actually be grateful in the year 2008 to have a round circle flat plastic jar opener in the drawer all those years ago when it made it’s way into my kitchen and laid in the drawer unused for years?

Recently, I bought myself an electric omelet cooker … I haven’t used it yet … I will eventually … I use the George Foreman grill all the time now that I have the kind where I can take the grill plates off to wash them in the sink and not worry about the thing snapping shut on my hands/fingers while trying to clean it.

Last nite, I bought a Nordic Ware microwave Egg Boiler – I used it tonite – works great … and I do not have to worry about burning up a pan of eggs on the stove from forgetting it was cooking :) … I have two of their microwave poached egg cookers .. one that will cook only two eggs and one that will cook four … I like both and use them when I have eggs and find the time to cook in the morning before rushing out for work.

I think I definitely need new hot pads though … and probably a good set of kitchen mitts too since I don’t have any of those at the moment.
