Tuesdays Topic this week is The Dentist. For some people, just the word Dentist inspires terror and/or loathing … not generally directed personally towards the person but towards the entire awful experience.
Me for instance … I had so many bad experiences as a kid with Dentistry Students and brand new out of school Dentists with no experience(being poor back in the 50′s & 60′s in Iowa without welfare Medicare benefits meant finding the cheapest dental care available if any was even searched for at all – in Des Moines, that meant The Health Center for me). I don’t even know if they put fluoride (sp) in the water back then or not – I just know my teeth have never been good – teeth just suddenly breaking for no known reason has been part of my history as long as I can remember.
I made sure my kids went to a good children’s dnetist so they were never petrified – no one really enjoys dental work being done but not being scared out of your wits is a good thing when having dental work done.
I’m still a coward and avoid going unless I absolutely HAVE to go – panic attacks and dental work at the same time are not how I want to spend my time!
Encourage your kids to brush their teeth and to take excellent care of their teeth!
