The main reason why I love the Internet is because it has made the world a global village.

Miss Gabby, our beloved family dog of many years, is very sick. I belong to a Yahoo Group and one of my friends happens to work in a vet office and wrote right away with info to help us. I cried and I’m crying just thinking about it. She had knowledge we didn’t have and wanted to help us and was right there as soon as she knew we needed her help. She is wonderful! All my friends online are awesomely there for good and bad times. The world is a much smaller place today because of the Internet. i have friends who live in England (I got to meet one of them a week and a half ago in San Francisco), friends who live in Australia and Switzerland as well as all over the United States. Each are very wonderfully special caring people who may not be able to run over and hand me a cup of latte … but they are here offering help, support, laughter and friendship every day via email.

Our vet finally called my daughter back this morning (she told me so on my first cigarette break of the day) – I know he is swamped or he would have called earlier – he is an excellent vet but very over-whelmed with lots of sick animals (part of it is probably the weather change here in Houston – it’s going back & forth – right now it is quite chilly but gloriously lovely from all the hot weather which is supposed to be back this or next week again) and he just happens to have a lot of patients with the same issues as our Miss Gabby – the reason is that he was the one out of four vets we saw that could diagnose and prescribe treatment instead of just advising to put her down so many years ago about this hideous illness she has – her body doesn’t process or digest her food correctly if it will at all – she has to have an enzyme medicine on all her food. He saved her life then and his assistant had already told my daughter yesterday to try baby food to see if that would help stabilize Miss Gabby. At the moment … we are hopeful again that we do not have to say good-bye yet. And now it is time for me to go back to the backyard with our lovely pretty girl who just finished eating her baby food and rice supper.
