Political Controversy - The Dixie Chicks
Awhile back - Country Music stars, The Dixie Chicks, made a political comment that was not well received when it was made - it was not a “popular” opinion at the time with the vast majority of the American public - as of today, May 29, 2006, Memorial Day Monday - his popularity is not as high - the war in Iraq, high gas prices - those are just a couple reasons some of his supporters have jumped ship on him.
The Dixie Chicks have a new CD out in May 2006 (their fans are probably very happy to have new music from them!), Taking The Long Way, with a song, “Not Ready To Make Nice” that appears to reference this incident.
I’m not a particular fan - I love some of their music and others I don’t like at all. I am not a supporter of President Bush and I was on their side when they made their comment. I’m also a big believer that EVERYONE, no matter who they are, has a right to their own opinion about politics and whether I agree with them or not, they have the right to express it, if it is done in an appropriate manner (spray painting vulgar cursing on public building walls is not an appropriate way - but saying so calmly & rationally from a concert stage is appropriate).
This month, the paint group I belong to had “fur” as the monthly painting theme - I don’t normally paint animals … but I do try to always participate in the monthly theme.
I created an attitude kitten … it really DOES have attitude
… and it taught me something about me that I hadn’t considered - I view these kind of political controversies similar to a kitten with a serious need for conditioner after bathing
People made death threats to The Dixie Chicks of all outlandish things about this comment - to me, THAT is totally insane! Who-ever did it had to be a fanatic needing locked up to protect all of humanity from their delusions of godhood in my opinion! Who-ever it was, they need to be de-clawed!
Politicians come & go - some, like Bush, “IN MY PERSONAL OPINION”, are incompetent at handling the duties of being a US President. No, I did not vote for him either time. Thankfully, he too will pass from our political arena into being a history fact with no real power to continue making decisions for our country {EVENTUALLY}.
People who think have opinions - The Dixie Chicks think. They expressed their opinions. They have rights just like me & you to express them - being famous musicians does not mean they are not people with the same rights that un-famous people have - they also have the right to live without people making death threats to them over a few words!
